What We Do

Elevating Ethical Standards

Sustainable Café is all about offering products which have the highest possible ethical and sustainable standards and we go beyond that. Our ultimate aim at Sustainable Café is to offer our supply chain from cradle to cradle. To offer a fair deal, both in line with the planet, to the consumer and the humans who spend large parts of their lives to produce the items we buy.

The Sustainable Café Family:

We are an all-inclusive family who love everything ecological, sustainable and socially equitable. As we evolve, we will ensure we employ as diverse a workforce as possible which represents cultures from all over the world from those directly on our payroll to our multiverse of partners.

The Human Workforce:

The workforce is integral to our business and we will keep a close eye on their working conditions. Sustainable Café will advocate as much as we possibly can for the best living conditions for those who make our products. To support the businesses they work for and ensure all their staff have a stable and comfortable place to live and sleep, have access to potable water resources, access to good healthcare and their children can attend school regularly. We will also push tirelessly to eliminate unsafe working conditions, exploitation, low wages, forced labor, child labor and so on.

The Three R’s:

Sustainable Café’s ultimate goal is to only sell items which will be 100% cradle to cradle throughout its life. However, at this point, we have to make concessions of the three Rs to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are implemented as often as possible. For products which cannot be recycled, we will implore their end of life will have the least harm to the earth, preferably through biodegrading. To extend the life of products, we aim to partner with socially conscious charities and support them by marketing their pre loved shop items. Any profits we make from such partnerships will be returned to those charities.

Certifications:

Over the course of Sustainable Café’s long future, we plan to have a series of certifications to prove we do what we say. Once we begin trading, we aim to start the certification process with B Corporation within the first five years. After that, we hope to have further certifications such as The Ethical Company Organizations (ECO), UN Global Compact and endorsements from various NGOs. Already, we are part of the prestigious Good Business Charter (GBC) and aim to continue to be accredited with more certified sustainable gold standards.

Be transparent as possible

There is much more to learn. We do not have all the answers but will continue to improve and learn more about good sustainable business practice as Sustainable Café evolves. What makes business successful is to know what works. For other companies to see what we do and what works for us and other businesses to replicate our successes driven by sustainable development throughout the consumer market.

The Supply Chain

In line with Sustainable Café ‘s commitment to the social, built and natural environments, we will ask that our suppliers to do what they say. For example, minimize their packaging and use sustainable materials.Over the course of Sustainable Café’s life, we will aim to phase out hydrocarbons in our supply chain. This of course is a long term goal which we think is imminently possible.To reduce our impacts of unsustainable forestry, we will request that products which have soya, palm oil and others which may compromise vulnerable ecosystems are from well-managed, sustainable farms.
Metals used should always come from recycled sources or mined in eco-friendly ways. Our products should not put any natural environment or community at risk from degradation including pollution, risking fishing or potable water resources, amongst others.
Animal husbandry must ensure best practice, to offer our creatures the most dignified quality of life possible.
